It’s best to get this, sometimes uncomfortable, step out of the way first. Winter Proposal Inspiration

Did you know that according to the BBC, nearly 40% of engagements happen in the 2½ months between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day? And the day the most engagements take place is on Christmas Eve! This means that this Friday, more people will get engaged than any other day of the year! So now is the perfect time for some winter proposal inspiration!

To make your engagement special, you are going to have to think outside of the box. Proposals should be personal and tied to special memories that you share with your partner. So, if you are one of the many planning to propose on Christmas Eve or sometime this winter, look to the season for proposal inspiration!

Unique Proposal Inspiration

There are so many fun and creative elements of the holidays to incorporate into your proposal this season. If you are proposing sometime one Christmas Day or Christmas Eve, consider hiding the ring! Hide the ring on a branch of your Christmas tree or stuff your partner’s stocking with it for them to find.

Or, get an ornament that opens to reveal your engagement ring. That way, you will have a special keepsake to commemorate your engagement that you can decorate your tree with every year! And if you are into large gestures, try writing out your proposal in Christmas lights or in the snow!

The options are endless when you draw inspiration from the time of year you are proposing in! And of course, don’t forget to incorporate personal details and special moments you have shared together into your proposal. You will be sure to make this season unforgettable!

Your Guide to Engagement Rings

Christmastime is here, and with it comes a whole lot of engagements. According to the BBC, nearly 40% of engagements happen in the 2½ months between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day. The number of engagements skyrockets on Christmas Eve. So, in honor of this season of getting engaged, we’re giving you our guide to engagement rings so you can pick the perfect one for your partner!

Clean and Simple

When choosing the perfect engagement ring, try to think about what your partner’s personal style is. What kind of jewelry do they wear daily? If your partner opts for more dainty jewelry for everyday wear, go for a classic and simple cut! Think Round, Oval, Cushion, or Radiant cuts. These classic cuts will never go out of style and will work perfectly for your understated partner.

Modern

If your partner chooses larger, statement pieces for their everyday jewelry, consider an Emerald, Princess, or Asscher cut diamond. These modern cuts will be the perfect statement while still looking elegant and chic. Also, consider unique band styles like halos, yellow gold, or diamond bands to add a bit of character to these classy cuts.

Unique and Trendy

Finally, if your partner is always looking for the next fun and unique piece to add to their collection, check out interesting cuts like Heart, Pear, and Marquise. Make these cuts personal by hopping on trends like adding multiple stones of various cuts.  Or select nature-inspired bands that vine and wrap around the finger.

Whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong when you keep in mind their personal style!  So, ask your partner’s friends what they’d like and pay attention to their jewelry box and you won’t go wrong when picking out your engagement rings!

The Latest Winter Wedding Trends

December is here and, with it comes colder weather, shorter days, and new winter wedding trends. Even though it’s not the most popular time of year to get married, a winter wedding offers a unique charm you wouldn’t be able to get in spring or summer. Get inspired with this season’s latest and most popular winter wedding trends and see which ones you want to incorporate into your big day!

Bridal Capes

One beautiful trend that we are seeing all over the wedding scene this winter is bridal capes. These unique bridal accessories are the perfect cold-weather touch to add to your wedding attire. Functional as they are fashionable, bridal capes will protect you against the harsh winter weather in the most stylish way. And just like veils, they come in all kinds of styles and designs to fit the theme of your wedding.

Winter White

Just because it happens to be the holiday season does not mean that everything has to be red and green. Winter is the perfect time to incorporate white into your color pallet. Winter white will add a clean and chic finish to your ceremony and reception space. The best part is that, unlike bolder colors or metallics, white can function beautifully as an accent or with more use!

Stand Out Bridal Party Attire

A trend that began this fall and is sustaining in popularity into winter is unique bridal party attire. Think colorful groomsmen suits, velvet bridesmaid dresses, and leather accents. If you are looking for a fun and different way to incorporate some new colors and textures into your big day, put them on your bridal party!

How To Prioritize The Elements of Your Wedding

It is hard to prioritize all of the different elements of your wedding.  It’s your special day and you want it to be perfect for you and all of your guests but you still have to adhere to a budget.  So, you are faced with the question: how do you prioritize? What do you invest money in and what do you cut?

What Do You Want To Invest In?

You are going to want to decide first what the most important elements of your wedding are.  Then, how much you want to invest your money into them. Ask yourself: “What will be the most memorable parts of my wedding?” The key is to spend your money into elements that will make your wedding memorable for you and your guests.

What Will Make Your Wedding Memorable?

Between the vendors, the venue and the countless other expenses that go into planning your wedding, it all adds up very quickly.  What you want the most out of your wedding is for everyone to have a good time and to have great memories from your big day.  And we have to be realistic: no one but you is going to remember what exactly your flower arrangements looked like.

Wedding guests always remember the same key points of any event: The food, the music, and if you have a drinking crowd, the bar.  10 years from now, no one will remember the placemats you spent $50 on per place setting. They will remember how good the food was, how fun the party was and how beautiful the space was.  So invest your money in those elements and have a great time that you and your loved ones will remember forever.

When To Book Your Vendors

The wedding business is booming right now! Because of this past year of forced cancellations and postponements, this season has almost two years’ worth of weddings in one. It is fantastic that everyone is celebrating these special moments again! However, it has led to some logistical issues with venues and vendors.

Why The Long Wait Times?

The higher volume of couples planning weddings and the nationwide employee shortage have made booking venues and vendors even more competitive than before. So if you are planning on getting married in 2022, start planning now!

How Far In Advance Should You Book Your Vendors?

Now, after the wedding boom, the line for vendors is longer than ever before. Currently, experts are recommending that you look to book your ceremony and reception venue up to 18-24 months in advance. For professional photographers and videographers, this time frame should be between 12-18 months. And be sure to be patient when it comes to receiving your wedding photos or videos since the editing process could take weeks or even months. And for your florist, catering, and DJ, try to book those at least 12 months in advance.

It sounds crazy to book your vendors that far in advance but, these are crazy times after all. Every vendor and location is different. The best rule to go by for wedding planning this year is to book your venue and vendors that serve one specific purpose, like videographers, florists, etc., as soon as possible.

And do not forget: because of the spillover from last years’ cancelations and the current worker shortage, please be patient with your vendors and your venue.  They are here to help you make the most of your big day!

Post-Pandemic Wedding Advice

Due to the pandemic, everyone has had to push many events back by months or, in some cases, years. But with more people getting vaccinated, we have seen a boom in weddings this season, and we do not predict that it will get any less busy any time soon. This increase in weddings has led to an overcrowding of this year’s fall and winter wedding season. So even though we know it is hard to wait, the best post-pandemic wedding advice we can give you is to please be patient with your wedding vendors and have realistic expectations for your wedding content.

Post-Pandemic

You have heard about the lack of workers nowadays and how that is causing serious efficiency problems across all industries. That includes the wedding industry! The wedding business, in general, has been hit with shortened staff. Because they were out of work for a year and a half, many vendors and DJs had to get other jobs. Now there are not as many available to fit the demand.

Shortages and Delays

With last year’s weddings put on hold, this season is almost two years in one. All wedding clients are very busy, so it will take a little more time than usual to get the job done. Typical turnaround times for wedding videos range anywhere from 11 to 12 weeks under normal circumstances. All jobs have been doubled or tripled, so your content may arrive later than intended.

So if you are waiting on your wedding photos or video, please be patient, your vendors and wedding team. They are, after all, here to help, but they are extra busy nowadays. Give your vendors some time, and they will help you create the wedding album or video of your dreams!

Spooky Origins Wedding Traditions

Halloween is this Sunday! And in honor of the spooky season, we’re taking a look back to see where some of our favorite creepy wedding traditions originated. Beware: these wedding traditions have a very dark history lurking behind them.  These spooky origins will have you rethinking what you thought you knew about these wedding traditions.

Bloody Wedding Dresses

Today wedding dresses are usually the picture of perfection, set in a white or ivory color.  Did you know that red was the traditional color of wedding dresses? The deep red color was supposed to offer protection to the bride from evil spirits that were jealous of her happiness. When Queen Victoria of England wore a white dress in 1840, white wedding dresses caught on for wealthier women.

Haunting Bridesmaids

Nowadays, bridesmaids have a lot of responsibilities.  From assisting in wedding planning to taking on the bachelorette party, brides mades have a fun but daunting job.  But, did you know that before bachelorette parties and wedding showers, being a bridesmaid was dangerous? Back in the day, it was common for jealous ex-boyfriends to try to kidnap the bride. The bridesmaids dressed similarly to her to create a larger and safer party for traveling. This would then confuse any exs and lingering evil spirits who wished to do the bride ill will.

The Dark History of Wedding Traditions

The Halloween season is finally here! So, we’re taking a look back to see where some of our favorite spooky wedding traditions originated. While some wedding traditions have fun and entertaining beginnings. But others have a very dark history lurking behind them. It hasn’t always been happily walking down the aisle to meet your fiancé. And joking around with your best friend as your best man wasn’t always his main role.

Giving Away The Bride

Did you know that walking the bride down the aisle wasn’t always a meaningful and emotional exchange between father, daughter, and eventual son-in-law? Originally, walking the bride down the aisle counted as more of a business transaction than anything else. Fathers once used their daughters as currency to pay off all kinds of debt. This could include using his daughter as repayment to a wealthier landowner for rents, to symbolize a sacrificial, monetary peace offering to an opposing tribe, or buy their way into a higher social circle.

The Dark History Of The Best Man

And that’s not the only tradition with a dark history. Today, the best man today is usually the groom’s best friend. He’s the one to keep the fun rolling while making sure everyone is where they need to be for the ceremony. But, this role was traditionally a role for the biggest and strongest man the groom knew. This was so that if anyone tried to kidnap the bride or in case she decided to run away, the best man would be there as backup for the groom.

Where Did These Wedding Rituals Come From?

Some wedding traditions have been around for as long as anyone can remember. But have you ever wondered when some of them did start? Well, believe it or not, some of them trace back centuries. This week’s featured wedding rituals even date back to the same place!

“Something Old, Something New”

Firstly, we have all heard of the old phrase: “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue.” The phrase is, in modern times, associated with the bride wearing something old, something new, something borrowed from a loved one, and something in the color blue. Did you know that the saying comes from an Old English rhyme, “Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe.” This names four “good-luck objects” (plus a bit of money) a bride should include somewhere in her wedding outfit for luck and good fortune.

Honeymoons

Did you know that having a honeymoon also originated in Britain? Honeymoons original purpose was as trips to go see the family that couldn’t make it to the wedding. This wedding ritual started in the 18th century Britain too! These trips Honeymoons were originally trips to go see the family that couldn’t make it to the wedding. Eventually they evolved into the fun vacations we know of today.  But instead of flying off to a tropical island after your big day, you’d be taking a cross country tour to see all of your aunts, cousins, and grandparents!

Where Do Wedding Traditions Come From?

We all know that weddings are full of loads of tradition and ceremony. But, have you ever wondered where these wedding traditions come from? Who’s idea was it for a bride to wear a veil or for the engaged couple to not see each other until the wedding? What is the point of either?

The Origin of Bridal Veils

Well, veils have been essential wedding attire for millions of brides for centuries. Did you know that veils were supposed to be fashionable and functional? What is now just a beautiful accessory was once an essential part of a bride’s safety. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that a bride needed to wear a veil for her protection. It was believed that jealous witches and evil spirits would throw curses at her out of envy for her happiness. However, if the bride’s face was obscured by the veil, curses cast by unwelcome wedding crashers would not reach her.

Why Shouldn’t You See Your Fiancé Before The Wedding?

You probably already know the adage, “it’s bad luck to see your fiancé before the ceremony.” But, have you ever wondered why? I mean, it is not like you two do not know what each other look like already, right? Well back when arranged marriages were common, parents of the bride were afraid that if the couple met before marrying, the groom would not think the bride was attractive and would call off the wedding. Yikes!

Cozy Accents For Fall Weddings

Some of the best parts about having a fall wedding are all of the cozy accents that you can feature! This is the perfect season to get creative with your wedding decor. Any small detail can make a big difference in the overall experience of your wedding.

For example, you can change the whole mood of a space by shifting the lighting. Set the mood for your guests right when they arrive by incorporating lanterns! These pieces can be added to your entryway or aisle decorations and even your reception space. The lanterns will give off a softer and warmer light than the traditional glare of overhead lighting. This will make your event space feel cozier and more romantic; perfect for autumn.

And to keep your wedding nice and cozy, try adding textured accents like velvets, knits, or leather to the bridal party attire and decor. Put your own spin on your bridal party attire with velvet suits for the groomsmen or knit shawls for the bridesmaids. And try leather accents in place settings, invitations, or even wrapped around flower arrangements. These seasonal fabrics will give your overall wedding that extra warm touch.

Finally, add warmth to your reception through the menu! Substitute that traditional chicken or fish meal for any of your fall favorites. Soups, chili, stuffed peppers, and more are all great additions to your wedding menu. And if comfort food isn’t for you, put a twist on classic favorites like pumpkin pasta or sweet potato stuffed shells.

Take a hint from the season and make your wedding the coziest it can be!

Our Favorite Fall Wedding Trends

Happy first day of Autumn! Brace yourself for hayrides, cozy bonfires, and of course, pumpkin-spiced everything. And everything definitely includes wedding decor. Everyone has a different style, and you want to make sure that your fall wedding reflects that! If squash and hay bales aren’t your style, we’ve got you covered with some classier ideas for incorporating Autumn into your big day.

Try A Rustic Theme

If you have been loving rustic wedding pictures on Pinterest, fall is the season for you! Because of the cool weather and earthy tones, fall is the best time to have a “Rustic Wedding.” Rustic trends like wooden or burlap accents for things like seating cards or place settings will look right at home in the oranges and reds of fall.

Go For Gold

Metallic accents are great to add that extra shimmer to your wedding. For fall weddings, go for gold! Choosing gold accents over silver ones will create a warmer kind of glamor. So get creative with your gold accents. Gold tones can pop up in any metal feature like your place settings, centerpieces, or even in the rings! This classic metallic will be sure to fit the feel of the season.

Have Your Fall Wedding Feature Foliage

Finally, if you’re really looking for a way to add those fall colors to your wedding, opt for foliage in place of flowers. Try adorning the aisle, altar, and reception space with fall foliage instead of a traditional fresh flower display. Pro-tip: this will be more cost-effective than fresh flowers too! The Autumn leaves can be subtly incorporated into bouquets, boutonnieres, and more, so get creative!

Stay tuned for more fall wedding trends next week!

Add A Hint Of Fall To Your Big Day

It’s always a good idea to consider the season when choosing the decor for your wedding. But, not everyone is a pumpkin spice fiend.  Stores and websites are over run with loud and bright fall decorations that end up looking like a kids arts and crafts project.  If you aren’t into heavy themes, there are lots of ways to add a hint of fall into your special day.

Dried Flowers

Our first idea is to consider switching out fresh flowers for dried flowers. A bonus to being on trend for the season is that on average, dried flowers are more affordable than fresh ones. Their matte finish and earthy tones will add a subtly fall look to your bouquets and centerpieces. Also, scattering red, orange, and yellow leaves down the aisle instead of flower petals will create the same effect.

Fall Treats

Then, if cake isn’t your thing, fall is a great time to introduce some variety to your dessert table. Sweet fall treats like pies, tarts, or caramel apples will add a taste of the season to your menu. By including a different array of deserts you give inclusive options for those who aren’t big cake people and bring the taste of fall to your reception.

Also, consider adding a fall-themed signature drink like hot apple cider during cocktail hour. And for the more adventurous types, add moonshine! These drinks will capture the cozy spirit of fall in a fun and classy way.

Not everything has to be pumpkin spiced for it to be autumnal. When thinking about how to add a hint of fall to your wedding think small and think food

Incorporate a Daycare Room In Your Wedding

One of the most controversial things to decide when planning your wedding is if kids are invited. While they are loved ones and are very cute to be added into the ceremony as flower girls or ring bearers, they are also unpredictable. A lot of adults have good reasons to not want to bring children to a wedding. But, if you decide to open the invitation to kids, consider having a daycare room!

What Is A Daycare Room?

One wedding we were just at this weekend had a room inside the hotel venue specifically for daycare services. This was perfect for the parents that could not get babysitters in time for the wedding. They brought their kids and were still able to enjoy the fun like adults. This would also be a great place to keep the kids involved in the wedding entertained. The flower girl and the ring bearer will have a fun place to run around with other kids their age!

Keep Kids Entertained and Give Parents Freedom

This trend is a perfect way to ensure that everyone, from parents to kids, enjoys themselves. Inviting kids to a wedding is a hard sell for some. They get bored and run amok, being loud and possibly even damaging things. Having an escape from constantly having to watch them is something that most parents would kill for. Having a daycare room will put parents’ minds at ease. They will know that their children won’t be running around, getting into trouble, or getting hurt. So, a fantastic idea for your wedding if you invite kids is to have a daycare room.

A Wedding Bill: What Do You Think?

After working in the wedding business for almost 30 years, our resident wedding expert Eric Wenning thought he would have seen it all. However, what this newlywed couple did was definitely a new one he had never seen before. These clients actually billed their guests for their dinner because they did not show up to the wedding. We want to know your thoughts on this wedding bill but first, a little context.

The Situation

This bill was sent to two no-show wedding guests after they confirmed through RSVP. But on the actual day of the wedding, they never showed up. Weddings can add up fast, especially for those couples who are paying for everything primarily on their own, this was a blow. This particular bride and groom were stuck with an extra $240 bill.

What Should You Do If You Can’t Make It?

If you have never been married or been a part of wedding planning before, you might not realize just how much the price per guest is. Most weddings can cost anywhere between $100 – $200 per person. So if you as a guest are just giving a $50 Amazon gift card as a wedding present to the one you didn’t show up to, that’s a little cheap and tacky.

So think about that difference when you are gift-giving. If you have to do a no-show, always remember: be polite, be courteous, and send more money to cover the bride and groom’s expenses.  Remember, they wanted you there on their special day.  Keep the gravity of that decision in mind when choosing your wedding gift if you can not make it.

Do you think that charging people for a no-show is warranted, or do you think it’s a little tacky? Let us know what you think!

Avoid A Generic Wedding With These 3 Tips

No matter what your style or aesthetic is, one thing is the same for every couple who is getting married.  Everyone wants to avoid a generic wedding!  But coming up with new ideas is hard to do with just the two of you.  That’s why this week, the experts at Wenning entertainment are sharing some of their favorite ideas on how to mix things up.

Food Trucks

Firstly, take a break from the norm and hire food trucks for your cocktail hour! Instead of cheese and crackers, why not try a gourmet treat.  Tons of food trucks are now popping up in every city.  With so many different trucks to choose from, you can have anything that suits your taste. Mini pizzas, breakfast food, tacos, and so much more. Have fun, be unique and support a local business!

Personalized Bouquets

Next, you can personalize each of your bridesmaid’s bouquets! Your bridesmaids are all unique in their own way, why not reflect that in their flowers? The options are endless.  Pick their birth month flower or flowers that match their hair or eyes. This will give some uniqueness to your color scheme and really make your bridal party feel special. This personalized touch will help you avoid having a generic wedding.

Unique Wedding Venue Inspiration

The easiest way to add some uniqueness to your wedding is by playing with different venue ideas. Sure, loads of people get married at beautiful barns and hotels. But to make your wedding stand out, you’ll need to think outside of the box. Take these three ideas from our experts at Wenning Entertainment as inspiration to find your perfect and unique wedding venue!

A Zoo or Aquarium

An uncommon, yet excellent place to get to share your vows and get up and close with nature. The lush greenery and beautiful scenes that can be found at zoos and aquariums will provide the perfect backdrop for all of your pictures. And most already have specific rooms for events and gatherings so if you’re an animal lover, try looking into your city’s zoo or aquarium to hold your wedding!

An Orchard In Bloom

Make your outdoor ceremony stand out by holding it at an orchard. Go during the right season, and the trees will be in full bloom, creating the most picturesque location you’ve ever seen. With the right photographer, these will be some of the most beautiful pictures you will ever take!

A Unique Wedding Venue Special to You!

Everyone has at least one place that holds a special place in their heart and their relationship. It could be a first date location, where you got engaged, or another place you both hold dear. Lots of places have areas to rent out, so every time you revisit this location, it will remind you of your big day!

Wherever you choose to have your big day, just make sure that it’s special to you.  Always use your relationship as inspiration for everything from your vows to your unique wedding venue!

3 Unique Guest Book Ideas

If you are looking to spice up your wedding and set it apart from the crowd, look no further than Wenning Entertainment! This week, we discuss how to give your reception a subtle flair with our top 3 wedding guest book ideas!

#1: A Jenga Tower Guest Book

For our first idea, take it to your game cabinet and pull out the Jenga! Each of your guests will get a block to decorate however they want during cocktail hour or the reception. Then they’ll drop them in a collection box or be collected by table by the wedding party. At the end of the night, you will have a full personalized set and someone else to blame if you lose with their piece! The best part is that at every game night you host, you will be able to relive your big day with your friends.

#2: Quilt Squares

The second guest book idea is to make a community quilt! During your reception, have your guests sign a quilt square. Each table can sign, decorate, or write on a square however they want to wish you well. Then, after the wedding, you can have those squares sewn into a quilt! This gives you a practical keepsake and the best part is you can cuddle up with your guest’s kind words and well wishes for years to come!

#3: Signed Record

For all of you music lovers, our last recommendation is to record your guests on an actual record! This could be a track of your first dance song, the song that played as the bride walked down the aisle, or any other meaningful song. Whatever you pick, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind display and a fun activity for your guests!

Unique Wedding Ideas Part 1

Let’s face it; no one wants an average run of the mill wedding. The very best weddings are the ones with unique features.  The more you personalize different areas of your wedding to you and your spouse, the more special it will be. That’s why this August we are focusing on unique wedding ideas to make your special day stand out!

Hire a Painter

Our first idea has become a very big trend this season and that is hiring  a wedding painter! Photos and videos are great, but what about wedding memorabilia that you can display on your mantle? Talented painters can capture your venue, ceremony, or even first dance and leave you with a one of a kind keepsake. Support a local artist that you love and get a romantic painting that you’ll cherish forever.

Unique Wedding Decor

Next, you could incorporate your vows into your decor! Reciting your vows is one of if not the most personal and romantic parts of your wedding. Now, I know what you’re thinking: How on earth am I going to do that? There are tons of lettering specialists that can display them in your reception venue on walls, centerpieces and more! This will affirm your dedication to each other, and serves as a personal touch for those who maybe couldn’t hear you during the ceremony.

Unique Color Palettes

There are a handful of tried and true wedding color pallets out there to choose from.  But if you wanted to personalize your celebration even more a great idea is to incorporate your birth stones.  No matter the gemstone, incorporating elements of your birthstones into your color scheme will add a subtle but personal touch to your big day!

The best way to make your wedding unique is to keep things personal.  Think about what elements of you and your spouse can be incorporated in not just the ceremony but every part of the wedding day. Whatever you decide to do on your big day, keep it personal and you’ll be happy.

Does Your Top Pick Live Too Far Away?

The minute you get engaged you might already have someone in mind to be your best man or maid of honor.  It happens all the time.  You make a pact with your roommate from college or your childhood best friend to choose each other for those big roles but then life happens.  People move out of state and you have to ask yourself: do they live too far away?

Is Your First Choice Too Far Away?

Whenever talking about who your best man and maid or matron of honor is, it’s best to pick someone local.  Generally, for all of the responsibility and jobs they do, an out of state maid of honor or best man is just too far away. For example; if you’re planning a wedding in Pittsburgh and your first choice for the job lives in Florida or California, it will be very hard for them to plan all the different aspects locally while they live out of state.

Also, when you are choosing who is going to have this big role in your wedding you have to consider that everyone has their own lives going on too.  Things are going to be more difficult for them to venture off and plan when they aren’t in the same state as the vendors they are trying to coordinate with.  So be cautious when choosing a person that lives out of state. Think about the planning process for the wedding shower or the bachelor and bachelorette parties. It makes the job so much easier to tackle when you are in the same city you’re planning the event in.

Consider Their Needs As Well!

Those people who do live out of state though do not have to be completely excluded! Whether its as a guest or another member of the bridal party, there are more ways than one to make your loved ones feel included in the wedding without overwhelming them. Maids of Honor and Best Men have so many extra duties that they are required to do.  Make things easier on yourself and your loved ones by picking someone convenient.

How To Choose Your Maid of Honor or Best Man

Wedding planning can be such a fun and unique experience if you have the right support system.  Organizing bach parties, coming up with fun themes and having all of your friends and family come together are some of the best parts about a wedding!  However, this can turn sour if you don’t have the right Maid of Honor or Best Man at your side to help you with everything.

How to Choose?

There is a lot of responsibility wrapped up in being a Maid of Honor or Best Man.  It truly isn’t a popularity contest. You want to make sure that whoever you put in the position of Best Man or Maid of Honor are the ones that are the most responsible. We see this all the time! People put their party animal friends in place of someone accountable.  Sure you have this crazy shared experience hangover style with Rob but will Rob black out during the reception? You love them and maybe the party animal friend will make a great groomsmen, but you have to ask yourself: do I trust them to be responsible?

What Makes A Great Maid of Honor or Best Man?

If you are new to wedding planning, a maid of honor or a best man has a lot of responsibility.  Between planning and organization and a whole mess of other financial obligations.  The planning process with the right maid of honor or best man will be a fun and fantastic time! But, if you pick the wrong one, the added stress will be nothing to joke about. The best person for the job is that reliable “mom” friend of the group.  The one that is financially stable and always shows up on time.   Make sure whoever you pick can live up to the expectations of that high title!

How Many Bridesmaids Do You Really Need?

Getting engaged is so exciting!  That excitement can lead to making snap decisions about important points of your wedding early on.  Take for example: picking your bridal party.  It’s easy to fall into the trap of wanting as many bridesmaids or groomsmen as you can fit because you want everyone to be included, but that’s not always the best idea.

Be Selective When Choosing Your Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

When talking about wedding party etiquette you need to keep in mind the good old fashioned K.I.S.S. rule.  Keep It Simple Stupid! You want to keep the people that are closest to you part of your big day.  Not everybody you consider a friend needs to make the cut.  Sure you were really close with your college roommate four years ago but have you talked since?

Theres a reason why the people who are currently the closest to you are the best ones to add to a bridal party.  They know who you are now.  They know your likes and you dislikes best.  These are the people that you want to give the responsibility of being in the bridal party.

What Is Normal?

You don’t need two dozen people at your bridal party.  When it comes down to it, thats just more people to corral on the day of your wedding. The average bridal party these days is between four and six people for the bride and the groom.  So keep it simple! You do not want to be stressed on your wedding day by Joe-haven’t-seen-him-in-years because he’s by the bar instead of taking pictures with the rest of the bridal party.

You have so many things to stress over on your wedding day as it is.  Don’t let your bridal party become one of them!

Wedding Party Expectations

Summer is in full swing now and the wedding boom is on. Due to the past years restrictions on social engagements, couples all over are eager to get out and get married. Whether you’re one of those couples or a close friend of one, one thing is for sure: it’s going to be a busy summer! And with business comes a lot of expectations from the wedding party.

To help you navigate through post covid event planning you’ll need help.  That’s why this whole month we’re going to be discussing the ones who help you the most: your wedding party.

Figure Out Your Wedding Party Expectations

From the moment you choose those people, to the execution of their duties you have to be transparent with them on your expectations. Whenever you’re choosing the people who are going to be a part of the most important day of your life you have to make sure they understand the financial obligations that they are committing themselves to. For example, it is best to put together a simple word document.  This will explain every single item that they’re going to be responsible for in an easy to reference document.

You might want them to be responsible for all kinds of things. The dress, for the bridal party shower, and anything else for the bachelorette and bachelor party nights adds up.  So having their obligations mapped out in advance will help them to know, going into the night, if they can even afford it.

According to tradition, if they can’t afford what you’re asking of them, that financial responsibility then falls to the best man or the maid of honor.  That spells for frustration on their part because they are picking up everyone else’s slack.  The best way to avoid tension is to be upfront about your expectations from the jump.

Blank Venues

Planning a wedding can be so hard when you are trying to make it unique.  You don’t want your wedding to be too cookie cutter but coming up with new ideas that no one you know has done before is a lot of work.  And there are so many different types of blank venues. When you do find that perfect place, make sure that it’s beautiful scenery and amazingly high ceilings don’t cloud your reason.

Blank Venues

With a lot of couples finding new and eclectic venues for their weddings, it can be easy to overlook practicality in favor of aesthetics.  Since most unique venues weren’t made with weddings in mind, like barns for instance, they are a blank canvas. This means they might not have existing elements that are essential to a good wedding.  So, while that beautifully rustic barn might be great for pictures, think practically.  Will it work for your staff, entertainment and guests? And if not, can you budget for the extra expense of compensating for what the existing venue lacks?

What To Consider When Picking Unique Venues

Your Guests

They all love you and want your day to be as special as possible! However, you also want to make their experience as fun and easy as possible, right?  That might not happen if your guests have an aversion to using porta-potties because your beautiful barn venue doesn’t have the proper restroom facilities.

Your Staff and Entertainment

To make your day run smoothly, your catering staff and entertainment must be able to do their jobs in a clean and easy to use environment.  In your venue, will you have access to a food prep location like a kitchen? Will you have a work station for the catering staff? Can the venue’s power supply handle a band or Dj equipment?

Blank canvas venues can be great and luxurious and wonderful places to let your creativity run wild.  However, for a lot of them, you have to bring everything in yourself to make that beautiful space functional for your guests and staff. And that is where the costs begin to skyrocket.

If you and your partner are able to budget out the extra expenses then go for it! However, other beautiful, existing venues already have amenities. If that makes the most sense for your budget, try consider one of them.  Your guests and staff will thank you for it!

Breaking Traditions and Unique Alternatives

When you’re planning your wedding, do not feel pressured to do the same traditions every one else does.  Not everyone likes cake, or maybe you think tossing the bouquet is cheesy.  Whatever the case may be one thing remains the same; IT’S YOUR WEDDING! A big part of the fun of planning your own wedding is getting to pick and choose exactly what you want for your big day. Breaking traditions in your wedding planning will create a fun and unique experience for your guests.

Have Fun With Food

This might be one of the easiest and most common traditions to break.  Loads of people don’t like cake so, why force it into your special day? One anti-cake couple’s idea for a unique substitute was to cut chocolate balls instead.  Not a huge chocolate person? No problem: Cupcakes, donuts, ice cream and more have been popping up in the place of traditional wedding cakes.  Pick whatever sweet treat you and your partner love, and make that the main event!

Think Drinks

Getting creative with small details in your wedding is a sure fire way to make it memorable for your guests.  For example, your seating arrangement and table numbers.  Sure, anyone can have a fancy script card on a plate. But a fun twist will set your wedding apart from all of the rest! One couple featured a champagne wall with custom name tags with each guest’s seat and table on it.  This will really make your wedding one to remember, especially when the guests can take them home.

Breaking Traditions

Now, before you say it, we know. Cookie tables are a staple in any western Pennsylvanian wedding. But, hear us out. Candy tables are becoming more and more popular due to their versatility and ease.

No rules are set in stone when it comes to your wedding.  Do what makes you and your fiancée the happiest. Think outside of the box and most importantly, have fun with it!

Your Wedding Layout: Where To Put Your DJ?

We, at Wenning Entertainment, have seen our fair share of weddings.  You have so many things to worry about when it comes to wedding planning. From food to flowers to table arrangements, there’s a lot to handle. This week, we’re covering something that might not even be on your radar yet: your wedding layout. More specifically, where you put your entertainment. Even though it might seem like a little thing, where you put your band or DJ has a huge impact on your guests.

Where do you place your entertainment in your layout?

If you don’t know much about event planning you might want to shove the DJ in a corner so that they don’t take up too much of your event space.  However, this is a HUGE mistake.  Once you put your DJ in a corner, you isolate the unlucky guests sitting between them and the dance floor.

It’s always best to put your Dj in the front or your space right in front of the dance floor with no tables in between them. That way, no table is getting blasted with music from a speaker.

Who are you putting where, and why?

Probably the worst mistakes you can make in your guest layout are direct results of where you place your entertainment.  Always take into account accessibility. For Example, DOn’t sit your oldest guests by the entertainment.  They’re here for you and want to be able to have fun and talk to people. That will not be possible for them if you place them right next to booming speakers.

If you have to put your entertainment in a corner due to your event space layout, think hard about your seating chart. Your younger guests will enjoy the loud music more
