First look photos are a newer trend that has resulted in some amazing images! There are many reasons why you would, or why you wouldn’t, want to have a first look with your fiancé. Some couples still believe it is bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the ceremony. Other couples simply want to enjoy the emotional moment when the couple sees each other for the first time. Either way, here are a few pros and cons you may want to consider before deciding if this is for you.

Pros

Weather or not you decide on doing a first look will be completely up to you. Some people still believe it is bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the ceremony. Other couples absolutely love the idea of a first look to capture more emotional and intimate photos. First looks are also a great idea for winter weddings where you want to have all of your photos complete before the ceremony while there is still daylight. This is also a great way for you to get more images of your special day!

Cons

Some couples opt to decide to wait until the church doors open and just meet at the alter instead! Everyone is overwhelmed with emotion, especially the groom, and the photographers are able to grab some great shots. Another reason couples said they didn’t do a first look was so they could include their wedding rings in photos. If you are a superstitious person or simply a traditionalist then the first look is not for you.

Reimagined First Look

If you aren’t sold on doing a first look an alternate is for the bride-to-be to have a first look with her father. This is a great variation since many couples want to have the church doors open and see the bride for the first time. But for a father seeing his daughter on her wedding day can also be an emotional moment. If you have a first look with your father you are still capturing a very special moment shared between the bride and her first true love. If you go this route you still get to be given to your soon to be husband and aren’t breaking the tradition of your groom seeing you before the ceremony!
